In Unlabel, the young people examined their identities in broader social terms. They created images for a series of postcard-size stickers that explored power in relationships, nationalism, sexuality, abuse, and global suffering and cataclysm. Some of the stickers include text such as ‘my identity tis enigmatic’ or ‘I drowned in sadness – I drowned in depression’, suggesting that behind these lay stories of hurt and trauma.
The making of this art is a respectful and sensitive undertaking, enabling people to face these internal phantoms and receive acknowledgement for their hard work and effort, and equipping them with the tools of self- expression and communion with others.
